The Portage SWAT Team held their annual training this past week. The team, led by SWAT Team Commander Sergeant Ross Haynes, takes part in training sessions once a month, with a week long session once a year. During these sessions, the guys engage in repelling and high ropes courses, as well as school simulations, shooting exercises, and large room clearings. The team tries to cover every possible situation they could run into, so they are prepared for the real thing. They take it seriously but also have fun. "We have a blast," commented Randy Wilkening, Assistant Chief of the Fire Department.
