I tell her often she is my favorite daughter. She always smiles and says, “I’m your only daughter.” To which I, naturally, reply, “That’s why you’re my favorite.” I was told before she was born that there is a special connection between Daddys and Daughters. I’ve come to believe that wholeheartedly.
I was the one who took her to the doctor’s office when we first began to suspect all was not as it should be. That particular doctor blew me off, and told me she just had a cold. But the infection would not go away, and if you’re a parent, you know how worried you get when your baby (she was only about 6 months old) is sick all the time. So we took her to another doctor who (rightly) suspected something else was going on and referred us to a specialist. I have to say that I think we got the best doctor possible. He has been very attentive, has listened to us and Rachel and has taken good care of her. He’s made sure we knew all the options.
What she has is renal reflux, and it’s something we had hoped she would grow out of. However, she has not and the time has come for surgery to take place so that it will not cause more serious problems down the road for her. So tomorrow, October 28, we will drive to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis where this same doctor that we know and trust will correct the problem.
I am not worried about the surgery; I have complete confidence in the doctor and the skills God has given him. Still, I’m asking if, whenever you happen to think about it tomorrow, you would say a prayer for Rachel, for a speedy recovery and healing. Her biggest concern in all of this is whether or not she’ll get to go trick-or-treating on Sunday night! And whether she’ll be able to dance next week. So I’m asking you just to say a prayer for her, for all of us, for the doctor...for God’s perfect and complete healing in all of this.
