The Goshen community came together at Black Squirrel Golf Course on Thursday, July 4, for an evening filled with celebration, delicious food, and a beautiful fireworks display. The annual event, now known as Fireworks on the Fairway, has become a cherished tradition for residents.
With Surf Internet as a key sponsor, the event featured a variety of local food trucks and several vendors for attendees to explore. The highlight of the evening was, of course, the fireworks display that lit up the sky at the end of the night.
Dan Umbower, Indiana Sales Manager for Surf Internet, expressed the company's enthusiasm for being sponsors of the event. The company is excited to continue supporting community involvement in local events.
“It’s great for Surf to be involved in the event again this year,” Umbower said. “We love being part of this Independence Day celebration and are honored to sponsor it.”
Umbower also emphasized the event’s significance for the Goshen community. It unites residents as they celebrate history, fostering a sense of togetherness.
“The fireworks at Black Squirrel have been a tradition for a long time,” Umbower said. “It's great to see Goshen come together as a community to celebrate, remember our country’s history, and appreciate our freedom.”
Families and friends spread out around the golf course, plates of food in hand, in anticipation of the fireworks to come. Guy Fisher — a first-time attendee with his wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law — was particularly interested in the food offerings.
“I’m most excited about all the food trucks,” Fisher said. “We can’t wait to check those out and enjoy some amazing food from the vendors.”
Fisher also highlighted the impact of these community events, as they play a vital role in bringing about unity among attendees.
“Events like this are critical to the community because they bring people together and allow everyone to put aside their differences for the night to celebrate,” Fisher said.
Greg Conrad, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County and also a first-time attendee, was excited to spend time with others and expressed appreciation for the community event.
“It’s a beautiful night for the fireworks, some good food, and hanging out with the community,” Conrad said. “These events add vitality and strength to the community. They provide family activities and encourage people to be outside and enjoy the company of others.”
Conrad also extended gratitude to those who made Fireworks on the Fairway possible. He acknowledged the amount of work that putting on such an event entails and is grateful for all who had a part in it.
“A big thank you to everyone involved in organizing this event. It’s a huge undertaking, and it’s appreciated,” Conrad said.
