Join us for lectures about operas from this season of the Lyric Opera of Chicago performances. Presented by a Lyric Core Opera member, this trained lecturer will speak on "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Benjamin Britten; giving background information about both the composer and the story, as well as play musical highlights.This is a free program offered by the Portage Public Library and pre-registration is requested. Join us for The Diving Bell and the Butterly. At the age of 43 Elle France magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body except his left eye. He used a blinking code to write his memoir and eloquently described his life from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands hed only visited in his mind. In French and English with English subtitles.FREE, co-sponsored with Porter Health System's Senior Circle. Pre-registration is requested, popcorn and beverages will be provided.

Trish Cochran, a representative with Heritage Makers, will teach participants to create a greeting card. It will be a great opportunity for people to do a very special card for a loved one for Christmas, birthday, or any occasion.Class size is limited to 12 participants, ages 12 and up. Participants must bring a laptop containing their pictures.
The workshop is free, but pre-registration is required by November 4. The finished projects are shipped to the participant, charges will apply. Contact the library with questions and to sign up, 763-1508.

Presented by bowling historian Steve Cooper, this video program features rare clips from the heyday of bowling. See great trick shot artists and bowling legends in action and learn about the history of bowling, from pinsetting to the old time Chicago bowling alleys.This is a FREE event, pre-registration is requested. Bowling Memories is a Books to Bridge the Region event. Books to Bridge the Region is a reading initiative that encompasses seven Northwest Indiana counties.
