The Brooks at Vale Park, one of Valparaiso's most exciting new developments, is preparing the perfect home for Steve and Judy Emmert.
Transferring to Valparaiso from Illinois, the Emmert family was looking for a location that had a spectacular landscape and tons of amenities.
As soon as they saw The Brooks, they knew it was the perfect place.
“It's the land that spoke to us,” Judy Emmert said.
The decision to move didn’t come lightly to the Emmert. After deciding to sell their house of 29 years, they were looking for a home they could settle into after retiring and switching to remote work.
The lure of Indiana’s tax rate brought them to the Region, but after viewing other neighborhoods, the Emmerts settled on The Brooks.
“Where Steve worked, many people were from Indiana. His boss sent him a link to The Brooks development because he knew we were looking for a home,” Judy Emmert said. “We were looking in Illinois, actually, because we’re from Northbrook. Once we looked closer, it was truly the Indiana taxes and the new development that gained our attention.”
A key factor in choosing The Brooks was also the landscape and all the development has to offer.
“We were looking in St. John, and the developments there were very flat, and the same was true in Illinois,” Judy Emmert said.
Choosing Lot 61, Steve and Judy Emmert were able to select one that works for them as well as select a builder.
“We met with a couple of contractors early on,” Steve Emmert said. “They were all very nice, but Sublime Homes had some new models, and we just love them. We looked at what kind of lots they had available, and we picked the best one.”
Steve and Judy Emmert are also excited about the amenities available throughout The Brooks.
“We noticed that The Brooks is going to have pickleball courts, walking paths, and trees,” said Judy Emmert. “We just fell in love with the area.”
Set on over 50 acres of preserved greenspace, homeowners in The Brooks will be able to enjoy a community pool and clubhouse, two lakes, three miles of walking trails, a butterfly garden, and a cascading stream as well.
The Emmerts had also heard a lot about the town of Valparaiso and had experienced all it had to offer firsthand.
“We've heard good things about the dining in Valparaiso,” Judy Emmert said. “We've gone to a couple of places right in the town square and another place we found for breakfast. It will probably become one of our favorites.”
In addition to enjoying their new home, Steve and Judy Emmert have lots of ways to stay busy.
Judy Emmert has plans to continue her work remotely. Steve Emmert, in addition to working part-time for his former employer, works as a guest ambassador for the Cubs.
