Memories were made on Saturday, May 27 when Currie Motors Ford of Valpo held its sixth annual Memorial Day Weekend Car Show. People from all over Northwest Indiana, and even some people out-of-state, gathered for a day of sweet rides, sweet company, and an even sweeter cause.
“I just love seeing the community out together like this, especially after the pandemic. It’s nice to get back to the thing that matters most, and that’s the community,” said General Manager Frank Herrera.
The Currie Motors Ford of Valpo Memorial Weekend Car Show is always a hit, but this year’s car show was its biggest car show yet. By the end of the day, over 100 cars had registered.
“It means a lot to see so many people come out today—especially our previous customers who have brought out the performance vehicles that we’ve sold to them over the years. We’re very happy with the turnout and the outcome,” said Herrera.
As the parents enjoyed themselves looking at all the classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles, the kids had a blast taking part in all kinds of activities. There were bounce houses, face painting, a balloon animal booth, and a caricature drawing stand. When everyone needed a break from the heat, people had fun relaxing under some shady tents while snacking on delicious hamburgers and hotdogs made by Herrera!
For a small donation, people got to vote on their favorite cars. All of the money raised from the event went towards The Folds of Honor Foundation.
“Let’s not forget what we really are here for today: to honor and remember all of those that have fallen protecting our Freedom,” said Hererra.
Hererra thanked all that attended/supported this mission and left an everlasting message on everyone's hearts and minds.
"I want to thank everyone that came out to raise money with us for the Folds of Honor Foundation," said Herrera. Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission: to provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of America's fallen and disabled service-members. I want to thank my assistant and events coordinator, Shannon Evans, for planning and executing this event from start to finish. I also want to thank all of our sponsors that donated items for our raffle and our friends and family that have donated their time today to make this event run as smoothly as possible."
The event was ultimately a great way to bring families together for a day of sunshine and splendor.
“It’s important to bring people together and support one another, and Currie Motors Ford of Valpo truly cares about the community. We truly take this event to heart. We’ve been doing this for six years--we try to be sewn into the fabric of the community and this does exactly that. It gets people from Valparaiso and the surrounding areas to come out together and have fun with one another while also raising money for a great cause,” said Herrera.
One glance at all the smiling faces during the awards ceremony was all anyone needed to know that this year’s Memorial Weekend Car Show was a huge success. The Currie Motors Ford of Valpo team is grateful to have had the opportunity to put on another wonderful event for the community and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
“I’m thankful to everyone for supporting our event. Some of our car show registrations have been here since our first event in 2016. Those community members are like family to us. We could not do it without them," said Herrera. To learn more about Currie Motors Ford of Valpo, visit https://www.fordofvalpo.com/.
