On September 18, Three20 Recovery will have its ninth annual Hooked on Art Festival in downtown Chesterton. The event, which runs 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., provides fun for the entire family while also raising awareness for a great cause.
“Hooked on Art is a wonderful festival and what we do is we bring together live music, visual performances, and arts of all kinds at a large scale,” Furness said. “For example, we have a 3D art chalk artist that will be doing a large demo right in the middle of the downtown street.”
Hooked on Art brings artists from all different backgrounds, who work with all different kinds of mediums to create live street art during the festival. Among these artists are Rodgers Create, 3D chalk artists Craig and Jamie Rodgers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The festival will also have live music from 10am-2pm at the gazebo, local vendors, and food tents. Among the variety of food options, there will be Aunt Connie’s Homemade Healthy Bites at the Three20 Recovery food tent. There will be dozens of unique vendors with artwork, apparel, and more, including official Hooked on Art festival merchandise at Three20 booth.
The Chalk Art Competition offers fun for all ages, an adult competition 18 + and a youth
competition 12-17 years of age, with $2,000 in cash and prizes. Registration for the competition
ends Friday, September 10th so if you're interested visit 320recovery.com to register.
Chalk squares will be judged on creativity, quality, and originality. The Hooked on Art Festival is
great for families to spend time together and support recovery while experiencing and
interacting with different art forms.
Three20 Recovery strives to create an event that caters to all ages, even working with local youth organizations such as the YMCA who is hosting this year’s Creative Kids section. The Creative Kids station offers affordable DIY art activities for all ages in Thomas Centennial Park.
“One of the big notes for us with recovery is that family time is prevention time. We really believe that spending time with the family really keeps that path to recovery going forward,” Furness said.
The festival will also hold a raffle for two different Schwinn bikes. The first is a donated 1970 fully restored Schwinn Suburban. The second is a 1960 Schwinn Colgate that Furness had found in an old family barn, and with the help of Leo’s Mobile Bike Service in Valparaiso, the bike has been restored using its original parts.
“That is our iconic Recovery bike, something from the 1960s that was kind of rusted and not in good condition turned into this amazing, restored bike using all its original pieces. It’s kind of symbolic for what we do here,” Furness said.
