Top 10 football stadiums in Northwest Indiana

Northwest Indiana is home to some great football stadiums and venues. Here’s our list of the top 10 stadiums here in Northwest Indiana.

Crown Point High School

To start our list, we have Crown Point High School. This field is one of the best in the DAC, with bright red endzones and the unmistakable bulldog at midfield. The field is within walking distance from the school and features football facilities connects to the field, along with a large bulldog statue in honor of the school’s mascot.

Hobart High School

Representing the NCC and coming in next on our list is Hobart High School. This field features beautiful purple and gold accents in the endzones with the school’s mascot, Yohan, featured at the 50-yard line. Recently, this field has been home to several championships. This field looks great and has been providing plenty of good luck for the Brickies.

Lake Central High School

Up next on our list is Lake Central High School. Lake Central’s field was once your typical high school grass field. In recent years, the field and stadium have seen some renovations, including new turf, updates to the home and away stands, and new locker rooms and facilities. The new stands and facilities provide excellent coverage for the stadium and create a unique environment on Friday nights.

La Porte High School

La Porte High School’s Kiwanis Field has also seen some updates in recent years. Most notable was the introduction of a turf field that replace the old grass field going into the 2014 season. Located a block away from the high school, this field has vibrant orange endzones and a large Flying L at mid-field. This field also features orange highlighted 26-yard lines in memory of Jake West, a former La Porte football player who suddenly passed in 2013. Since the renovations, La Porte has enjoyed a State Finals appearance, one conference championship, and several Sectional Championship appearances.

Merrillville High School

Merrillville High School’s field feels like more of a colosseum and less of a high school football field. This field is surrounded on both sides with large, concrete stadium seats unlike any other in the DAC. This field is neatly tucked away, providing a secluded feeling to Friday night games.

Michigan City High School

Michigan City’s Ames Field is another stadium in the DAC that does not feel or look like your typical high school field. Ames Field is its own separate entity. Located close to downtown in Michigan City, this facility provides the Wolves with a private venue, similar to many universities in the nation. With no track surrounding the field and brick walls for the perimeter, you’re only able to focus on one thing here: football.

Mishawaka High School

Mishawaka High School is next on our list, representing the Northern Indiana Athletic Conference. Mishawaka’s Steele Stadium has beautiful details and outshines many of the NIC stadiums. Steele Stadium is the first field on this list that still has a natural grass field as opposed to turf. Steele Stadium features a large maroon M in the middle of the field for Mishawaka.

New Prairie High School

New Prairie High School, also members of the NIC, brings us our second grass field in the top 10. Another field tucked away, the Friday night feeling is unlike any other in Northwest Indiana. New Prairie is also looking to add new facilities to the field, bringing exciting renovations for the football team in the near future.

Portage High School

Portage High School’s field has one of the most interesting pre-game walk on this list. For Friday nights, players walk all the way from the school down to the field, creating a suspenseful feeling in the fall. Along with great field turf and a large Indian at midfield, Portage’s field is a sight to see on Fridays.

Valparaiso High School

Rounding off our list is Valparaiso High School. The Vikings laid down fresh turf a couple seasons ago and have been taking off ever since. With plenty of trips deep into the IHSAA playoffs, the Vikings have been on a roll lately. Valparaiso’s field also features a large digital display attached to the scoreboard, which captures live replays throughout the game.
