Thirteen Portage High School students qualify for BPA State

Thirteen Portage High School students have qualified for the Business Professionals of America State competition after a strong performance at last weekend's regional contest.

The students competed in over twenty regional contests, which take classroom business topics and convert these into individual and team judged competitions against ten other Northwest Indiana schools.

The State Leadership Conference will be held in Indianapolis in March 2021. If successful, these students will earn the right to attend the National Leadership Conference held in Orlando, Florida in May 2021. The 2021 State qualifiers are Adam Fritz (Global Marketing Team, Fundamental Accounting), Jonathan Kenny (Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, Interview Skills), William Kenzie (PC Servicing & Troubleshooting, Fundamentals of Web Design), Aidan Lineberry (Global Marketing Team, Java Programming), Matthew Lopez (PC Servicing & Troubleshooting), Carter Mullins (Banking & Finance, Personal Financial Management), Kwadejah Marfo (Personal Financial Management, Interview Skills), Kadin Overton (Fundamental Word Processing, Fundamentals of Web Design), Spencer Perry (Global Marketing Team, Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications), Logan Reese (Economic Research-Individual, Business Law & Ethics) Trevor Shively (Fundamental Accounting), Isaac Snuffer (Fundamental Accounting, Personal Financial Management), Zachary Yong (Global Marketing Team, Personal Financial Management).

Senior Adam Fritz said this experience in BPA has changed his career aspirations.

"By joining BPA, it changed my future career outlook as I found a subject in marketing that I will be pursuing in college upon my graduation in May. Being able to compete and win with my friends for two years has been fun and given me the opportunity to explore the world of business outside of high school."

BPA President Spencer Perry said "BPA has been an amazing experience so far. I only wish I had joined it sooner."

The Portage High School BPA is presided by PHS senior and BPA president Spencer Perry and sponsored by business teacher Mr. Bryan Bernacki.
