Dec. 19 event designed for parents with students heading to college next fall

Indiana University Northwest is hosting a free online seminar about what parents and students planning to enroll in college in fall 2020 can expect college to look like in the wake of COVID-19. “Going to College in a Pandemic” takes place this Saturday, December 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. It is open to parents and their high school students.

According to Dorothy Frink, IU Northwest director of Admissions and Strategic Recruitment, the discussion will include such topics as:

  • What college looks like during these unprecedented times
  • How campuses are creating a safe environment for students
  • The difference between high school eLearning and college in person and online courses
  • How students and faculty are staying connected using different modes of instruction
  • The college experience for students next fall
  • What happens during a gap year

Speak to students and experts

In addition to Frink, other panelists for the event include:

  • Angad Sidhu, a senior studying biology and president of the Student Government Association
  • Ken Iwama, IU Northwest Chancellor
  • Mark Baer, associate professor of Acting and Directing in the School of the Arts and Faculty Organization president

IU has made significant investments to enable enhanced health and safety protocols on campus, including physical distancing, personal protective equipment, reduced room capacities, and sanitizing stations. The university has also conducted one of Indiana’s largest testing programs, reporting fewer positive cases than the region at large, making IU Northwest one of the safest campuses in the state.
