One of the things I love most about my job is the joy of watching a show. I have spots all over the theatre that I sneak off to after curtain speech to watch. And I love it because I feel like I’m sharing the experience with you, who have transcended being audience members and have become dear friends. I love seeing all of you on your way in and love talking with you after the shows. And I miss it. And I can’t wait for us to start doing it all again!
To be honest though, we still don’t know when that will be.
Ensuring the health and well-being of our patrons, volunteers, and staff is our greatest concern. We are following the guidance of Porter County Commissioners and Health Department, as well as the state health experts about reopening. And we are continually having round table discussions and exchanging ideas with other leaders within the community theatre industry about any new processes and procedures that will best serve our guests at Memorial Opera House.
What we can tell you is this:
- We have officially postponed our productions of 9 to 5, The Musical, and Roald Dahl’s Matilda, The Musical until the 2021 Mainstage Season. They will be in the same respective Spring and Summer time frames as they were scheduled for in 2020. All tickets purchased for these events will be honored at the future performances.
- Regarding the remainder of the 2020 Season, when we have a reopen date we will let you know how attendance will work, and will be happy to accommodate exchange or refund needs.
- When we reopen (and we will reopen), we anticipate having a reduced capacity and physical distancing policies in place. We may have to work with you on special seating needs for the first few shows.
- If any of the remaining Mainstage Season shows are canceled, you will have the option to receive a credit or a refund, or make a donation back to the theater.
- We are working to finalize the 2021 Mainstage Season and will be making an announcement in early August!
As we’re working with county officials to develop our plan, it’s clear that we all want to be back; it’s just a matter of when and how.
We are extraordinarily grateful for your continued support, your patience and your trust in Memorial Opera House.
