The National Kidney Foundation of Indiana will conduct a free health screening for people at increased risk for kidney disease on April 23, 2010 at the Portage Township YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN, from 9 am to 2 pm.
The screening is part of the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) designed to identify and educate people at risk – those with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease.
“We know that if we start early with education, detection and if necessary, medical intervention, we can often postpone the onset of kidney disease or kidney failure,” says Nicki Howard, KEEP Coordinator.
KEEP screening participants will have their weight and blood pressure checked. Medical professionals will collect blood and urine samples from those who require further testing. A physician is on-site to review results with participants.
More than 26 millions Americans have chronic kidney disease and most don’t even know it. Millions more are at risk.
