This weekend’s list includes some spooky activities as well for those of you getting into the Halloween spirit as October moves along. Annual Haunted Hayride Thursday - Saturday, Portage
Come enjoy our annual Haunted Hayride at Woodland Park on October 19th, 20th & 21st. Each night will run from 6:30 to 9:30. Concessions will be available for purchase. Cost is $3 per ride. Ages 3 and under NOT recommended.

Haunted Mini Golf at Zao Island Friday - Sunday, Valparaiso
Zao Island will have a Haunted Mini Golf course the whole month of October. Come out for a ghoulish good time!

Amhurst Asylum: The Most Deranged Haunted Attraction to Hit the Midwest - Friday - Sunday, Valparaiso
Dubbed by the locals as The Amhurst Asylum, the building has now been abandoned for decades and Dr. Amhurst was never found. Throughout the years many have tried to break into the old Amhurst Asylum, attempting to see if any remnants were left behind, testing the myth. Many who enter the Amhurst Asylum mysteriously disappear. Do you have what it takes to survive The Amhurst Asylum?!

Creative Kids at the Portage Township YMCA - Friday, Portage
Treat your tiny Picasso to a fun-filled evening at the Y! Children will be supplied with paint, one canvas and a snack. Come to class dressed to get messy! Classes are held one Friday of every month. Preschoolers can participate with help from a parent. Register online or stop in

What Happens At The Library When The Lights Go Out? Friday, La Porte
La Porte County Public Library is excited to announce that our famously popular, family-friendly event, ‘What Happens At The Library When The Lights Go Out?’ is back with a splash! Anytime between the hours of 6:30pm to 8:30pm on Friday, October 20 the Main Library, at 904 Indiana Avenue, will be transformed into a bubbly, underwater world. Fish, lobsters, mermaids, and other aquatic characters will flow out of the pages of their storybooks and swim to life as you are ushered throughout the walls of the library. Come dressed in your favorite costume if you’d like and experience the depths of the deep-sea like never before.

City of Hammond Hosts Monster Mash - Friday, Hammond
On Friday, October 20, 2017 the Jean Shepherd Community Center will host the City of Hammond’s Monster Mash, a Halloween dance for all ages. Costume contests, games, music, and more! $5 per couple, $2 per additional person (concessions included). 18 and under require parent/guardian present.

Lakeshore PAWS Pooch Costume Parade - Saturday, Valparaiso
Please join us and the fun at this popular annual event. Registration starts at 10 a.m. There is a $5 fee to register for the costume contest and the walk is free. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. The costume judging and prize awards will take place at noon.

Purdue Northwest Nature Walk at Coffee Creek Watershed Nature Preserve - Saturday, Chesterton
Purdue University Northwest, in partnership with the Coffee Creek Watershed Nature Preserve and the Nature Conservancy, will host a “Natural History” nature walk from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Coffee Creek Watershed Nature Preserve in Chesterton. PNW Professor of Biology Young Choi will lead the nature walk and provide an opportunity for participants to learn about the natural history, ecology and botany of the Coffee Creek, Little Calumet River, and Lake Michigan watershed in Northwest Indiana.

Washington Park Zoo's Boo at the Zoo - Saturday, Michigan City
Scared that you don’t have any plans for Halloween this year? Fly your broomstick on down to the Washington Park Zoo on Saturday, October 21st and spend a kid-friendly, merry, and not so scary afternoon or evening with the animals. Little ghouls and boys will experience child-friendly trick or treating from local business sponsored booths while having wild animal encounters along the decorated zoo paths.
