S.T.E.M. Club
We have 29 kids currently enrolled in our after school S.T.E.M. Club. The acronym stands for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics. This after school club will run from the middle of September to the end of October and is focused on saving the penguins. The project will challenge students to investigate how the burning of fossil fuels is impacting climate change and how we need to develop energy efficient structures help slow the rate of global warming. Students will design, build, and test a dwelling for a penguin shaped ice cube, which represents us humans attempting to stay cool in a warming world. ‘Save the Penguins’ is a great introduction to engineering, the science behind heat transfer, the design process, and scientific inquiry.
Gummy Bear Experiment
Aylesworth Elementary students are busy experimenting and having fun! Miss Detterline's 4th grade scientists soaked Gummy Bears in water over night to see what would happen. They doubled in size! They also tried Cinnamon Bears. They lost their color, but stayed the same size.
