To try to give kids the best start to Easter weekend as possible, City Point Church hosted a candy drop on Saturday the 19th at Woodland Park. The event started at noon with various activities the kids could participate in before the actual candy drop took place.
There were tables set up for kids who wanted to get their faces painted for Easter. On another table, a jar of jelly beans was set up, with the person who guessed the correct amount won the jar filled with the candies.
The Easter event would not be complete without a visit from the one and only Easter Bunny, who walked around the event before the candy drop to take pictures with the kids.
The candy drop happened around 12:30. For the drop, a helicopter made its way into the park. The helicopter flew in from above and came down close to the ground. At that point, a few people in the helicopter threw candy out into the field. After all the candy was thrown, the helicopter made its way back up and out of the park.
At that time, a countdown was held by the pastor of the church for the kids to run out onto the field to collect the candy. The children were previously held back by caution tape so that they would not get into the path of the helicopter.
To make sure that everyone had the same amount of candy, the kids were all given the same sized bags to collect the treats.
Also hidden in the field were ten special Easter eggs. Prizes for finding the eggs included objects like gift cards and bicycles. If participants won anything, they would need to visit City Point Church Easter morning to collect their prize.
Kids and parents ran out into the field to collect the candy and look for eggs immediately following the count down. Kids five and over went first, followed by anyone younger to prevent injuries. Anyone in the first grade or under needed a parent to participate in the event.
The event wrapped up shortly after the candy drop. As children walked out, members of the church handed out candy to those who did not find much in the field.
The candy drop event and everything else included before it was completely free to all participants. Around 5,000 people came out to the candy drop.
